In order to reduce the workload of cases relating to service matters in High Courts, Constitution of India was amended in 1977 providing for establishment of Administrative Tribunals under Article 323A   for the adjudication or trial by Administrative Tribunals of disputes and complaints with respect to recruitment and conditions of service and posts in connection of Union or State services and other related authorities. Accordingly, Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985 came into force after approval of the Parliament. Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT) was established on 06.10.1986 at Bengaluru vide Notification of Government of India dated 03.10.1986.  Thereafter benches of KSAT have been established in Belagavi in 2018 and Kalburgi in 2019.
